ABOUT DEPARTMNT
DEPARTMNT is building the new interface for the internet; one you can tap, wear, and walk through. We connect products, people, and places using NFC, smart design, and blockchain-backed layers, making culture interactive in real life.
OUR ECOSYSTEM
smart tags that activate digital experiences
a web app that lets people claim, connect, and unlock access
a SaaS platform for brands to turn physical things into data-rich, gamified, digital touchpoints
We work across fashion, music, and events, empowering culture-led brands to create drops, perks, and portals that move beyond content and into participation.
This isn’t about fixing the internet.
It’s about replacing it with something real.
the role
We’re looking for a QA Engineer / Test Lead to help us ship smooth, stable, bug-free experiences across both our consumer and brand platforms.
You’ll own testing across CNX (PWA), CORE (SaaS), and TapTech integrations, ensuring every flow works as intended, across devices and use cases.
This is a part-time or contract role ideal for someone who thrives in startup environments and can implement practical testing systems that keep us moving fast without breaking things.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and execute test plans across web apps, APIs, and mobile flows
- Conduct manual testing across real devices (iOS/Android/Web)
- Identify, log, and track bugs and inconsistencies across CNX and CORE
- Set up lightweight automated test coverage where appropriate
- Test NFC flows, QR logic, and tag-based experiences
- Collaborate with developers during release cycles to validate key functionality
- Support usability and edge case testing before live activations
What You’ll Bring
- 3+ years experience in QA or testing-focused engineering
- Experience testing web apps, mobile-responsive PWAs, and APIs
- Strong understanding of cross-browser/device testing
- Familiarity with modern tools (e.g. Playwright, Postman, Cypress, or similar)
- Bonus: experience testing NFC or hardware-integrated software
- Detail-oriented, organised, and proactive in raising issues and solutions
- Comfortable working async and independently in a fast-moving startup
What We Offer
- Flexible contract terms (PT / project-based)
- Remote-friendly and async collaboration
- Early-stage impact on products used by real people, IRL
- Opportunity to shape testing culture and process from day one
- A small, sharp, creative team that values speed and quality equally
