Location: London / Remote

Type: Full-Time / Contract

ABOUT DEPARTMNT

DEPARTMNT is building the new interface for the internet; one you can tap, wear, and walk through. We connect products, people, and places using NFC, smart design, and blockchain-backed layers, making culture interactive in real life.

OUR ECOSYSTEM

smart tags that activate digital experiences

a web app that lets people claim, connect, and unlock access

a SaaS platform for brands to turn physical things into data-rich, gamified, digital touchpoints

We work across fashion, music, and events, empowering culture-led brands to create drops, perks, and portals that move beyond content and into participation.

This isn’t about fixing the internet.

It’s about replacing it with something real.

the role

We’re looking for an AI Engineer who can bridge machine learning, Web3, and real-time experiences. You’ll work at the intersection of LLMs, vector search, blockchain, and digital interaction, helping us create tools like smart content assistants, recommendation engines, dynamic tagging, and contextual unlocks. If you're excited by RAG workflows, real-world data, and emerging tech – this is your playground.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement AI-powered features across CNX and CORE
  • Build tools using OpenAI API, LangChain, and vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone)
  • Develop retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines
  • Support natural language search, content summarisation, and AI tagging
  • Collaborate on blockchain-connected features (ownership, token unlocks, wallets)
  • Prototype fast, test in the wild, and ship useful tools, not just demos
  • Work cross-functionally with full-stack and frontend teams to embed AI workflows

What You’ll Bring

  • 3–5+ years experience in AI/ML and Python development
  • Hands-on experience with LLM frameworks (LangChain, FastAPI, OpenAI)
  • Knowledge of vector search, embeddings, and prompt engineering
  • Familiarity with Supabase, Firebase, or other modern backend tools
  • Experience (or interest) in Web3 technologies: smart contracts, NFTs, IPFS
  • Ability to move from concept to prototype to production
  • Curious, experimental, and excited to push what’s possible

What We Offer

  • Flexible working (remote / London-based studio optional)

  • Equity for long-term contributors
  • Big canvas, build intelligent tools for culture, not just spreadsheets
  • A future-facing team with no fear of firsts
  • The chance to define what AI + NFC + blockchain looks like in real life

HOW TO APPLY

Send us a short intro and a few links (GitHub, personal projects, past work) to: jobs@departmnt.xyz

No long applications. Just show us what you’ve built or want to explore.
